The British Isles

This was my first trip overseas and because of that, this one will probably always seem like the best. Partially because of it being novel, but also because the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English people are as wonderful and full of heart and compassion as I have heard.

Clouds near Limerick

Bunratty Castle and Folk Village Manor House main compound at Bunratty Castle

Bunratty Castle

I saw these cloud formations on our way south to Limerick. The sky is very turbulent in that part of the world. Bunratty Castle and Folk Village were interesting. This is the walled garden next to the manor house. This was part of the main compound of the manor. It included the farming equipment, potting area, and the walkway to the main house. Bunratty Castle itself was deceptively large. Inside there were many winding staircases with very small steps going to small rooms. Definitely not a comfortable place to live.

Celtic Musicians

Celtic Song & Dance Review

Celtic Song & Dance Review
Bunratty Castle was much more compact than a lot of the castles that we saw. . In the evening, they put on a Celtic Song/Dance Review. It was in an old barn in the Bunratty Folk Village. There was a little bit of everything. They went from old traditional songs and dances... To the more modern style that you see in productions like Riverdance.
Detailed building Scenery near Cashell Ireland

Rock of Cashell

Blackbirds in Cashell
I have no idea what this building is for, I just liked it. Scenery on the way to Cashell. This was the view of the Rock of Cashell from our B&B, the Ashmore House. I felt like I was in a Hitchcock movie. There were so many Blackbirds/ravens/crows(?) flying around at sunset it was bizarre.
Hore Abbey Rock of Cashell

Walls inside church

View of Church

We were a little early the next morning to see the Rock of Cashell, so we looked around. Hore Abbey was just down the hill. Another view of the Rock of Cashell. This wasn't really a castle. It was a fortified church and monastery. The walls inside the church still had a lot of detail. And yet another view of part of the church.
A day to remember Waterford Crystal Factory

David and Tammy VERY happy

Kilrane Pub
September 11, 2001
Tipperary Ireland
The tour of the Waterford Crystal factory was wonderful. I'd definitely recommend it as a must see. The next B&B stop was in Kilrane at the Clover Lane. Down the road was the Kilrane Pub where we met a group from Oregon. This is David and Tammy. We found that the best food and some of the best company could be found in the pubs.

Thomas Moore Memorial

 Meeting of the Waters

Rock bridge

I'm sure this was set up intentionally for the tourists but it was funny anyway. This memorial was for Thomas Moore in a place called the Meeting of the Waters, Ireland.. Two rivers joined up at this point and it was very beautiful. Many of the bridges here are created with beauty in mind.
